INGREDIENTS:
| Chana dal | ¾ cup |
| Ginger | 1 small piece |
| Green chillies | 2 (finely chopped) |
| Onion | 1 (finely chopped) |
| Garlic cloves | 2 (finely chopped) |
| Mustard seeds | ½ tablespoon |
| Sour curd | ¾ tablespoon |
| Lemon juice | 1 tablespoon |
| Sugar (ground) | 1 tablespoon |
| Asafoetida | A pinch |
| Black pepper powder | ¼ tablespoon |
| Curry leaves | 6-7 |
| Salt | To taste |
| Soda | ¼ tablespoon |
| Turmeric powder | A pinch |
| Chopped coriander leaves | To garnish |
METHOD:
1. Soak the chana dal overnight. Drain the water in the morning.
2. Take ½ of the dal. Add to it ginger, green chillies, curd and grind it coarsely.
3. Add to this mixture the remaining whole dal along with salt & turmeric powder. Keep the mixture covered for 6 hours.
4. Add soda, lemon juice & sugar to the mixture.
5. Put this mixture on idli stand, steam cook it.
6. When cooked cool it and crumble it.
7. Take a tablespoon water, add to it a little asafoetida & mustard powder, black pepper powder & heat it. Add this to the crumbled mixture.
8. In a pan saute garlic & onions till golden brown. Then to this add the curry leaves and mix it to the crumbled mixture.
9. Before serving the Chana Dal Bhel garnish with the coriander leaves.
